چکیده

spinal dysraphism that is attributed to incomplete neural tube closure during fetal development. Dermal sinus tracts are found along the midline neuroaxis from the nasion to the coccyx, but they most commonly appear in the lumbar region.1 Dermal sinus tracts are more commonly associated with other developmental abnormalities such as skin tags, naevi, spinal dermoid cysts, meningocoele, lipomas and spinal cord tethering, and can be complicated by cerebrospinal fluid drainage, shedding of keratin from the epithelialized tract, and infection such as meningitis.1 We report a case of a radiologically diagnosed DST associated with multifocal dermal and subcutaneous hemangiomas. Surgical intervention demonstrated that despite high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showing intradural extension of the tract to the conus, intradural exploration revealed no such tethering tract. This unusual condition was successfully managed by surgical excision of pathological tissues.

Late onset Proteus Mirabilis Meningitis and Subdural Abscess in a Boy With Lumbosacral Epidermoid Tumor: Case Report

Dermal sinus tracts have been reported all along the midline neuroaxis, with the majority being located in lumbar and sacral areas. They are usually associated with split cord malformations, tethered cord and inclusion tumors (dermoid, epidermoid, teratoma). Dermal sinus tracts with concomitant dermoid or epidermoid tumors are frequently associated with recurrent meningitis, but spinal subdural...

Congenital dermal sinus.

congenital dermal sinus tract is an uncommon type of spinal dysraphism that results when a focal area of the ectoderm fails to separate from the underlying neuroectoderm, a process termed nondysjunction. Nondysjunction prevents the insertion and subsequent development of mesodermal tissue, which normally separates the spinal cord from the skin. Congenital dermal sinus tracts occur rarely and ar...

Orthopedic Lesions in Tethered Cord Syndrome: The Importance of Early Diagnosis and Treatment on Patient Outcome

Background:   Many of the patients with tethered cord syndrome (TCS) are admitted because of neurological symptoms, while some are admitted because of their orthopedic, urologic, anorectal, and dermatologic manifestations.Consequently, this study aimed to evaluate the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of tethered cord syndrome on patient outcome. Methods: Fourty-three patients who und...

Case Report Bronchogenic cyst of the conus medullaris with spinal cord tethering: a case report and review of the literature

Bronchogenic cysts (BCs) are congenital malformations that originate from remnants of the primitive foregut. Intraspinal BCs, especially those of the conus medullaris are rare with only one case reported until now. To date, a bronchogenic cyst with spinal cord tethering has not been previously reported. We reviewed the clinical course of a 44-year-old woman, who presented with low back pain and...

A rare cutaneous sign of occult spinal dysraphism with tethered spinal cord.

©2008, World J Pediatr. All rights reserved. A female, born after normal pregnancy and labor, was referred for consultation for a 1-cm long fi brous appendage in the midline of her lumbosacral region one day after birth (Fig. 1). Although she was neurologically intact, computed tomography at 3 months revealed L4-L5 spina bifi da (Fig. 2A), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a low conus...
